Upland Wings

Wings’ Lake and Bourbon Lodge

The Outdoor Destination for St. Louis, just an hour away

Upland Wings owns over 6 sq. miles of hunting and fishing property in the northern extreme of the Ozark Mountain Range, bordering 250,000 acres of the Mark Twain National Forest, and just minutes away from Meramec State Park.  Upland Wings also controls an additional 3,000 acres of property that is available for hunting or private lease.  Upland Wings offers fully guided hunting and fishing for all state and federal game.

Upland Wings: Wings’ Lake Property - Just 2 hours from St. Louis

Upland Wings recently acquired Wings’ Lake, formerly the Pea Ridge Iron Ore Mine, located 12 miles from Sullivan, Missouri off Hwy. 185.  Wings’ Lake is just 60 miles from St. Louis and 40 miles from Rolla, Missouri.  The new location offers over 120 acres of lakes with trophy-sized bass and crappie, 500 acres of upland bird habitat, 300 acres of waterfowl habitat and a quarter-mile of river frontage on the Meramec.  This new property has conference rooms and instructional space available.

Upland Wings: Bourbon Lodge

Upland Wings offers both luxury and history in its authentic Timber Frame lodge.  All structural materials were harvested from the property and hand crafted with 14th century craftsmanship.  The hardwood lodge sleeps 10, with 5 bathrooms and a full commercial kitchen and overlooks 2 spring fed lakes loaded with walleye and largemouth bass.  The Bourbon Lodge facility also has a 15-station sporting clays range and dog kennels.

The Upland Wings Difference

Upland Wings focuses on hunting and “true habitat.”  Each field is managed to provide unique and authentic habitat consistent with the days quarry.  As a result of unique geographic features of the area and the reclamation project on the mining property and other mining properties, the variation in habitat ranges from arid desert to marshy waterfowl swamps.  This allows our guest the opportunity to hunt many different species of game bird in habitat that is consistent with each birds’ natural environment.

In an effort to balance ease, efficiency and cost most game bird preserves utilize 30 by 150 foot shooting lanes planted with heavy cover and bordered with mowed fescue .  Although this makes for easy and efficient harvesting of birds on the smallest amount of ground possible, it becomes monotonous.

Why hunt with Upland Wings

Upland Wings has deliberately designed its activities and its environment for the purpose of building relationships, shared memories and trust.  From the lodge’s 14th century all wood timber frame construction, hunting over challenging terrain with solid dogs, and nightly bonfires to recount the days events, everything in the surrounding environment is designed to act upon man’s deepest primal motivators.

What is Hunting Anyway

Hunting is an important primal bonding experience that connects modern man with his past.  From an evolutionary perspective, to be recognized as a member of the ‘hunting pack (or hunting party)’ is both an honor and a privilege, traditionally reflected as a right of passage.  Consequently, to include someone as part of your hunting party is to extend rank, trust and respect to that person.  A lifetime on the links together cannot compare to one rewarding hunt and an evening around a bonfire.  Upland Wings has assembled all of the essential components that make hunting and fishing a meaningful experience from beginning to end.  Upland Wings is ideal for building new business and personal relationships, bridging generation gaps or celebrating old friendships.

Aside from building our business, Upland Wings is an active contributor and participant in many wildlife conservation and education projects such as:

Upland Wings, Quail Unlimited St. Louis and National Forest personnel, are working to restore quail habitat inside the Mark Twain National Forest for public use.

Upland Wings will be offering Missouri Conservation Education courses through the HOOT and BOW programs.

Upland Wings management is involved in Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation and sponsors events, fundraisers and wildlife projects throughout the year, please contact us if you would like to get involved.

Upland Wings has also partnered with Doe Run Mining Company to re-claim and create 300 acres of dove habitat just a few miles from our existing location.
